Comet Hale-Bopp over the River Blackwater
Comet Hale-Bopp over the River Blackwater, Essex. April 1997. A nearly full Moon in the sky has made the sky blue and foreground objects can be seen in their natural colours as a result of the 20-second exposure time. This comet was prominent in the night sky for several weeks during early 1997, and was one of the brightest comets to be seen for many years. This view gives a good representation of its appearance to the naked eye. Credit Robin Scagell/Galaxy
