It is generally conceded that bankclearings and customs returns give afairly accurate indication of businessconditions. If this is so, Hamilton iscertainly in a thriving condition. In 1914the bank clearings totalled $148,,586,and in 1918 they stood at $262,476, customs returns for the port ofHamilton in 1914 were given at $2,274,, while in 1918 they had reached$6,758, Hamilton is essentially amanufacturing city with 425 manufac-turing establishments, many of them of.
