Maryland representative of the Pittsburgh Cut Flower Co., returned from his western trip and reports that the florists in the west anticipate a good spring busi- ness. George C. McCalluni, sales manager of the McCallum Co., went on a busi- ness trip to the east, while Hugh Boyd, auditor of the same conipanv, is in Detroit. T. P. Langhans, secretary of the Pittsburgh Cut Flower Co., accompan- ied by his wife, left Thursday evening, January 20, to spend a few weeks in Florida. The coal situation in this vicinity is again normal, it being possible to obtain any quantity of shipments de- sired. The price also has been con- siderably reduced. George B. Hampton, treasurer of the Joseph G. Neidinger Co., Philadelphia, Pa., was in Pittsburgh last week. H. J. H. NEWPORT, R. I. Club Meeting. The ncpossity of a state nursery in- spector for Rhode Island furnished the principal subject for discussion at the last regular meeting of the Newport Horticultural Society. The society voted to endorse the movement and to lend its full support to the effort to se- cure action by the general assembly at the present session. Charles W. Morey, of Woonsocket, one of the officers of the Rhode Island Nurserymen's Association, was present and led in the discusion, claiming that the present state entomologist and
