R. olLeadville, hadcharge of its construction, doing much of thework himself, donating his services, and kepithe first school. This was in 18G0. A goodcommon school was kept up in this school-house until 1872, when a large, fine publicschool edifice was erected, at a cost of $15,000,with lour commodious schoolrooms, besideshalls and closets. Soon after this, the gradedsystem was adopted, with W. A. Dow, an educatorof much reputation, from Peoria, 111. Prof. Dowintroduced the best system of grading publicschools for large (owns, and the most advancedmethods of instruction. An addition was built to the schoolhouse in1876, doubling its room, making place for sevendepartments, the higher occupying two Dow was succeeded by Miss Mary Thomas,wlin is just entering upon her fourth year in theresponsible po itionof Principal of the BoulderPublic School, doing honor to herself and thetown.
