Steward, Lee County, 111., was born inRichland County, 111., Sept. 29, 1860, the sonof Abraham B. and Elizabeth (Chauncey)Titus, who were natives, respectively, of theStates of New York and Illinois. Edgar received his education in the public schools of Illinois, and remained on his fath-ers farm until he reached the age of thirtyyears, when he was employed in his brothersstore at Rantoul, and in the grain business. Inthe spring of 1892 he came to Lee County andthere engaged in farming for the next twoyears, but in 1894 entering into partnershipwith his brother. Ira R., under the firm nameof Titus Brothers, purchased an elevator,grain and agricultural Implement business,later bought another grain elevator, and car-ried on a very extensive business in grain,. EDGAR L. TITUS. coal and lumber. The elevator last mentioned,with the coal and lumber business, they soldout in 1902, retaining the first elevator withthe grain business attached to it. January1, 1903. in conjunction with several leadingbusiness men, they organized the First Na-tional Bank of Steward, with a paid-up capitalof $25,000. in which the Titus Brothers holda controlling interest and of which Edgar was made President. The Titus Broth-ers are associated with G. H. T. Shaw andS. D. Frost in the construction of the North-ern Illinois Electric Railway, extending fromDixon to Amboy and through Lee Centerto Steward and DeKalb, of which Edgar L. Staubus. who was born in McLeanCounty, 111., the daughter of Alexander P. andFrances (Miller) Staubus. Mrs. Titus parentscame to McLean County in 1SG6. but in 187
