The outlines of tuberculous joints,and .especially the ends of the bones near them, are less defined thannormal. The cause of the lighter shadow appears to be the result ofa diminished amount of inorganic salts in the diseased bones. Thissubject, tuberculosis of the bones, will be further discussed underjoints. Syphilitic Disease. — Reference will be made to the use of theX-rays in this disease under joints. Rickets. — This disease affects the bones during prohferation of the cartilage cells leads to an enlargement of theepiphyses, and the cartilage is lacking in its normal amount of calca-reous matter.
