Plate 7- The Bishops Palace In this View are seen the two oriels of the heaven-gate chamber, built by abbot Kirton. The small round porch on the right leads to a magnificent hall. Al-though the exterior of the mansion displays nothing very imposing, the interior has manynoble apartments, fitted up in the most splendid style : the dining parlour contains a numberof choice pictures by the best masters. Plates Is an Interior View, shewing Part of the Nave, three of the Arches which support thelantern, with part of the South Transept.—A richly-carved screen forms the entrance tothe choir, above which is the organ ; the latter was omitted in the View, as it obstructed theprospect through the choir.
