"Curtailed" but not shuttered entirely, the Alcoa aluminium plant once employed 400 people. The cheapest electricity in the country was not encentive anough to keep the plant open as competition from China has reduced the market price of aluminum below the threshold of which Alco finds profitable. 8 employees currently maintain the mothballed facitiity which everyone hopes will open again this year. The Trump administration is currently considering new terrifs on aluminum which could give America-made aluminum an edge in the marketplace.
