During thetrying- days of the great Civil war he stood firmlyin defense of the Union, and took an active andprominent part in that struggle. He is now one ofthe representative farmers and leading citizens ofOregon township. The paternal grandparents of our subject wereJames and Elizabeth Spry, who spent their en-tire lives in Cornwall, England. In their familywere three children: (1) Walter Sorv, Sr., becamethe father of our subject. (2) Elizabeth came toAmerica married John Robins, and made her homeat Leach Lake, Berlin township, Wayne county,where she died in 1895. (3) William emigratedto the country in 1836, and also located at Beach.
