MetOp Second Generation satellite, illustration. MetOp is a series of three polar-orbiting meteorological satellites operated by the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT). The family of MetOp Second Generation missions (MetOp-SG) will comprise three pairs of Sun-synchronous orbiting satellites to record essential information for weather forecasting for the decades from 2020 onwards. This illustration shows the MetOp-SG-B satellite, which forms a pair with the MetOp-SG-A satellite.
