The power is transmitted from this steam engine by alarge strap passing over the drum, and over a corresponding drum on the main shafts, whichdistributes the power over the factory with a locomotive or travelling crane. The crane travelson a railway of cast iron, which extends the length of the building above the centre of thelathes. In the factory adjoining is an iron foundry and blacksmiths shop, the fan for blowingthe cupola and the forges being driven by the steam engine. The machinery is elaboratelydescribed in the 8th vol. of the Papers of the Royal Engineers. Close by is the laboratory.
