Calvi Street Procession During the Festival of Assumption. This Religious Festival Celebrates the Passage of the Virgin Mary into Heaven. Calvi, Corsi

The 15th August, the Festival of Assumption is a busy time in the Corsican town of Calvi. During this religious feast day, marking the passage of the Virgin Mary into heaven, there are many church masses and street processions. The evening is the climax with an amazing Son et Lumiere. Crowds flock to the waterfront to enjoy stunning light projections onto the walls of the old Citadal with music and fireworks. Calvi in Corsica is full of surprises. Just wander around the ancient Citadelle, built in 1268. The narrow pedestrian streets abound with character and charm. Built on the headland by Giovaninello de Loreto this fortress offers wonderful views of the surrounding Corsican coastal landscape. This small bustling, Mediterranean port bursts into life in the summer months when visitors arrive to enjoy its ambience, sun and cuisine. The Cathedral Saint Jean Baptiste is the venue for concerts of Corsican Polyphoniques Chants.
