25/09/13 This year's British apples are some of the tastiest and most colourful for years. "The good weather and summer heat has upped the sugar levels in the fruit making them sweeter and more colourful than in most years" said Richard Capper who has just begun harvesting almost 2000 tons of apples at Stocks Farm, Suckley in Worcestershire. The farm has 100 acres of apple orchards. The red apples. pictured, are Gala apples that will be sold to all the major UK supermarkets. It will take a team of 36 pickers ten days to harvest all the fruit that also include Bramley and Braeburn dessert apples and a staggering 1200 tons of cider apples.
