Radley Village, Oxfordshire, England - 11 July 2020; no people in view. Here we see a solitary coot swimming over a fallen, submerged tree in Thrupp Lake. This - together with the other Radley Lakes - have a fascinating story. They were originally gravel pits, but were subsequently filled with water after being abandoned, They went on to become havens for local birds and wildlife. When a predatory power company wanted to fill some with ash, local and national environmental groups ran a successful campaign to stop this heinous idea in its tracks. Thrupp Lake - the one shown in this image - is now managed as a community nature and recreational site by the Earth !
