Ridpath's history of the world; being an account of the ethnic origin, primitive estate, early migrations, social conditions and present promise of the principal families of men .. . ts are known to havebeen taken from thequarries of France! Some are found thatwere imported from theshores of the Mediter-ranean. It is impossi-ble to tell, however, whether these weaponsand utensils were carriedby trade or by the mi-gration of tribes to themountain lakes of Swit-zerland. By examination of the stone hatchet withanimal remains foundunder the lake dwell-ings, the inquirer discovers again the re-lations which the primitive people hereheld to the lower orders of life. As a rule, the prehistoric men ate nearly all kindsof animals with which they were asso-ciated. The skins ofbeasts were the principalarticles of clothing, andthe flesh was invariablystripped away for note in the case ofthe lake dwellers thesame appetite for marrowwhich we have alreadynoted in the men of thecaverns. They picked out of the hol-low bones every particle of the con-tents, and evidently regarded the mar-row as the principal delicacy. Theharder and better bones were made into SOCKET CHIPPED FLINT AR-ROWHEAD.
