Frutillar is beautifully situated on the western shoreline of lake Llanquihue, a few miles north of Puerto Varas, in the Chilean Lake District. The rainy temperate climate with rainfall throughout the year gives rise to a 'green and pleasant land' reminiscent of the English countryside. The climate and soils are well suited to fruit-growing, particularly apples and strawberries. German cakes, pastries and beers are local delicacies. A two week Music Festival or 'Semanes Musicales' has been held each year, since 1968, from the end of January to the first week in February. Frutillar is considered to have the best acoustic theatre in the whole of South America.
