180414-N-BD308-0004 PHILIPPINE SEA (April 14, 2018) The amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) fires a Phalanx Close-in Weapons System (CWIS) during a live-fire exercise. Wasp, part of the Wasp Expeditionary Strike Group, with embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, is operating in the Indo-Pacific region to enhance interoperability with partners, serve as a ready-response force for any type of contingency and advance the Up-Gunned ESG Concept.
