Macroscopic.âOedema of the body cavities results in their distention and in the displacement of the normal cavity contents as a result of the accumulated fluid. The serous membrane becomes discolored. Oedematous fluid is thin, water- like, pale yellow, or colorless, contains less albumin and is less coagulable than either blood serum or inflammatory exudate. An oedematous tissue is swollen, flabby, soft and pits upon.
