Boeing B 52D Stratofortress aircraft at South Dakota Air and Space Museum near Rapid City


After it became operational in 1955 the B52 remained the main long-range bomber of the US Air Force during the cold war and it continues to be an important part of the USAF bomber force today. Nearly seven hundred and fifty were built before production ended on October 26th. 1962. One hundred and seventy of these were the improved B 52D's. Its cruising speed is 526 mph and its unrefuelled range was 8,338 miles
