Handwara Killings: Clashes, Restrictions and Internet Blackout Continue. Hundreds of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) activists led a protest rally in Lal Chowk today against the Handwara Killings. The protesters demanded justice for the victims of recent Handwara violence and criticized the authorities for putting restrictions throughout the valley to curb the protests. They also protested against the detention of pro-freedom leaders and other activists. “India, which claims to be a democracy, has detained our leaders and activists to muzzle down our voice. They brutally killed four innocents and now they have put strict restrictions so that nobody hears us,” said one of the JKLF activists. In various parts of valley, clashes between youth and Indian forces were reported on Friday against the killing of four civilians in Handwara earlier this week. Restrictions also continued in the parts of valley. 3G services in the valley and internet services in North Kashmir remain suspended for the second day on the orders of authorities to curb the protests. Reports of clashes between youth and Indian forces were also reported from North Kashmir’s Handwara, Baramulla and parts of Srinagar, including Hyderpora, Hazratbal and Saraibala. In Habba kadalarea of Srinagar, journalists were barred from covering the protests by Indian forces. Protests were also held in Kashmir University campus by students against Handwara killings. They raised anti-India and Pro-freedom slogans. But the protesters were soon dispersed by the authorities.
