Fort Marion was originally named Castillo de San Marcos. Its name changed in 1825 to Fort Marion. The oldest masonry fort in the , it was built between 1672 and 1756. It is located in Saint Augustine, Florida. This 1866 engraving shows it in disrepair as it was when the Confederates seized it early in 1861, at the start of the Civil War (1861-1865). In March 1862, the Union took control and held control throughout the war. On top of the fort's broad walls, Union forces erected huts and tents.
