Rock garden are constructed of arranged moss-coverd rocks to express the feeling of islands in a sea of white sand. They are disarmingly simple in that they do not use plants as other gardens. This type of garden can be found at Zen temples throughout Japan, with the rock gardens at Ryuanji and Daitokuji temples in Kyoto, especially famous. The geometric designs of rock gardens might be considered to be the predecessors of some forms of modern art.
