Menitorix, meningitis C and Hib vaccine. Menitorix contains inactivated extracts from the bacteria that cause meningitis C (Neisseria meningitidis group C) and extracts from the Hib bacteria (Haemophilus influenzae). The Hib bacteria can also cause meningitis, as well as other serious diseases such as pneumonia and blood poisoning. When injected, the vaccine stimulates the body's immune system to produce antibodies, but without causing an infection. The immune system can then respond quickly to future infections by the bacteria. Menitorix is given as a booster vaccine to babies at 12 months of age.
