A general characteristic is the ascending progression of the first and last intervals. Each song was sung twice through, then twice from the seventh measure, and then once from the beginning, this being his custom. There was a slight break in the time after each partial or complete rendition. The present song contains syncopa- tions (nota legato) which are unusual in Papago songs. Attention is directed to the measure following the rest, occurring midway through the song. The absence of a rest at the close of this measure carries forward the interest in an effective manner.
