Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - Renaturalised Emscher in Dortmund Aplerbeck. The river has been transformed into a near-natural watercourse, flood protection and biodiversity through newly designed floodplains, here in the flood retention basin HRB Dortmund Nagelpötchen. Following the construction of a parallel sewer, the Emscher is now free of wastewater, having previously been an open, above-ground wastewater sewer, a combined sewer with surface water and wastewater.
