Sudan Grass yields a good crop of first-class hay, all stock relish the hay and thrive on it, the quality of the hay is superior to millet. Yields of from two to four tons per acre are common and under favorable conditions, six to eight tons per acre have been grown. Sudan Grass should not be planted until soil has become warm. It can be sown any time during the summer as a catch crop. It can be sown in rows 18 to 36 inches apart and cultivated, or can be drilled with a grain drill or sown broadcast by hand. Seeded in rows, it takes from 3 to 6 lbs. per acre, depending on the width of row; drilled or broadcast, from 12 to 15 tbs. is used. Sudan Grass is easy t cut with a mower and cures readily like millet. For hay it is best to cut just after full bloom and will give it more time for a second growth, and in 40 to 50 days another cutting is ready.
