Up to 100 people gathered on October 5th 2020 outside the United States Courthouse in Boston, MA to protest a Massachusetts state law requiring all children attending public school to have been vaccinated against influenza (flu).
Up to 100 people, mostly parents of school age children protested the August 2020 announcement by Massachusetts state public health officials that influenza immunization will be required for all children attending Massachusetts public schools during the 2020-2021 school year. The law would include elementary and secondary students using remote education. According to the state the law is an effort to reduce flu-related illness during the COVID-19 pandemic. Six other states currently require children to be vaccinated for the influenza. The group calling itself ‘No Mandatory Flu Shot MA’ (NMFSMA) gathered outside the John Joseph Moakley United States Courthouse on Boston Harbor. NMFSMA questions the safety of the flu vaccine and included many supporters of current President Donald Trump who protested coronavirus restrictions imposed by Massachusetts Republican Governor Charlie Baker. Most did not practice social distancing or wear face coverings, face mask, during the protest.
