Again, it is a satisfaction to know that the work of theInstitution has reached a point in organization and mo-mentum which secures steady progress, even in Dr. Erostsabsence. All friends and well-wishers of the Institution willwish to stand by the workers in Berea and the Trustees,who are for the time bearing the chief responsibilities forBereas important work. 28 THE BEREA QUARTERLY tl. PRESIDENT FROSTS LETTER. Dear Friends of Mine and of Berea: To many this Quarterly will bring the first informa-tion of my years absence from the work of Berea. I feellike writing a farewell word to each one of those who havebeen sharers in this enterprise. To begin with the personal part, it is a serious thingto face the fact that every human life must have its end,and that a premature and unexpected end is alwaysamong the possibilities. It had seemed to me that byabout the time when I should be seventy the special andpeculiar work of Berea could be brought to a point whereit would be secure for all the future. Just now I amleaving plans which are well begun, and most of themjustified by large immediate success, but which need to befollowed up with most careful attention. Let me speak ofa few of these matters in outline. It is Bereas mission to furnish guidance to the peopleof the Southern mountains in all the departments of life,and we have now in operation an eff
