The Fort National, St Malo, viewed from the ramparts of the old town. It is accessible at low tide.

View of the Fort National, St Malo from the city's ramparts. The fort was built in 1689 by Vauban. It was originally known as the Royal Fort but the name was changed after the revolution. It commands an excellent view along the coast in both directions and out to sea, thus defending not only St Malo but a large area beyond. One of its most famous actions was in 1692 against the English and Dutch fleets.
