Rainbow over Beinn Spionnaidh Cranstackie, seen from the A838 road on the North Coast 500 route, Northern Highlands Sutherland Scotland UK

The two adjoining Corbetts (mountains in Scotland between 2500 and 3000 feet in height) Beinn Spionnaidh and Cranstackie, form the most northerly high ground in mainland Britain. The usual starting point for the ascent is the original shepherd's house at Rhigolter, at the base of Beinn Spionnaidh, now the site of further agricultural development. Rhigolter is accessed by a track which leaves the A838 at Carbreck, northeast of Gualin House. The track crosses the mile or so of boggy moorland, and bridges the River Dionard as it meanders down towards the Kyle of Durness. The high corrie between the two summits is Coire Calbach.
