They are spher- ical in shape and range in size from 5—15^ in diameter; seg- mented forms are of rare occurrence, and the grains do not occur in aggregates. The laminae in the grains are not visible, but the hilum is central and very distinct, and is seldom cleft. The polarization crosses are not very distinct under ordinary condi- tions.
