From Cappoquin toLismore the road liesthrough noble demesnesand fine plantations, thatat Salter-bridge contain-ing some of the most ven-erable evergreen oaks inthe kingdom, and all sup-plying delightful sylvanscenery along the leftbank of the Blackwater. All the views at and about Lismore are strikinglybeautiful ; and the view of the little town itself, from the bridge by which we ap-proach it, not second to any in the district. The Blackwater above, as below thebridge, flows through one of the most verdant valleys, wide enough to show itsgreenness and fertility, and diversified by noble single trees and groups, while insome places the banks are thickly covered with foliage.
