The Egyptians believed in Cosmic order. and measured time by the annual cycle of the Nile and the daily progress of the sun across the is illustrated in a series of vignettes from the Book of the Dead, the papyrus of Ani. 1275 BC. depicting various gods associated with the progress from night, through day, to nightfall. In this vignette the God Rehu, in the form of a lion, is seated on a pedestal. Overhead, coiled around a lotus flower, is the serpent Uatchit, a goddess symbolizing of the eye of Ra. Known as the Fiery Goddess and the Lady of Flame, she is associated with the appearance of the north sky at Dawn.
