View across the promenade between a gap in traffic, towards Roberts Oyster Roioms and illuminated shops, Blackpool Illuminations

Established in 1876, Roberts Oyster Bar serves oysters, shrimps, cockles, mussels, whelks and The bar has always been run by a descendant of the Roberts family. The white painted, three-storeys building has simplified Regency-style 'Ionic' pilasters. It is a rare seafront survivor from the 19th century, at the corner of the Central Promenade and West Street, north of Blackpool Tower. Formerly a restaurant, hence the name 'Roberts Oyster Rooms' on the facade, it now serves shellfish from a counter, here closed. Waffles, soft drinks, ice-cream and novelties are served from Roberts' Rock and Ices shop (here open), next to the shellfish bar. Also next to the shellfish bar is 'Gino's Tornados' takeaway and sandwich bar. Next door is the 'Gifts Galore' novelties shop. The illuminated 'Brilliance' sign, over West Street, is an advert for the lighting scheme, a sound and light experience, in Birley Street, and which is billed as yet another reason to visit Blackpool during the autumn season.
