The eldest, James B., belonged to theregular arm}, and was drowned in Puget Soundin 1880, his canoe being capsized during a storm;Emma Y. is now the wife of William Darroch, anattorne3-at-law of Kentland, Ind.; George M. isthe next younger; and Hume L. completes thefamily. The subject of this sketch acquired a good Eng-lish education in the public sciiools of Milford,and is a well-informed young man, who reads ex-tensively, and is conversant with all the questionsand issues of the daj. lie learned the printerstrade in the office of the Milford Herald, serving aregular apprenticeship, and in 1890 he acceptedthe position of foreman of the Milford Indepen-dent, of which he is now managing editor. Thispaper is an independent Democratic journal, notbeing governed by an^ rings or cliques. Its edi-tor is a live, wide-awake young man, and he hasmade the Independent a prosperous paper.
