Seagull Nebula, composite image. The image combines visible data and infrared data (orange). This star formation region is around 3500 light years distant on the borders of the constellations of Monoceros and Canis Major. The emission nebula IC 2177 (upper left) forms the 'head' of the seagull. The image data was obtained from the Subaru Telescope of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), the Digitized Sky Survey, and NASA's WISE (Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer). For this view with the infrared data subtracted, see image C030/0048.
