The Nobel Peace Prize is this year being awarded to ICAN for its role in pushing for a United Nations global nuclear ban treaty. Despite being supported by 122 countries, the UK refused to participate in the treaty negotiations and is now refusing to sign it. While we celebrate the achievement of securing the treaty and the Nobel Peace Prize, we also need to use this as an opportunity to push the government to support the ban and commit to getting rid of Trident. Join two of ICAN’s partner organisations – the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and Medact – outside the Ministry of Defence for a die-in on the weekend the prize is being awarded to our coalition. Nuclear bombs are indiscriminate and the emergency services would also be killed, leaving no one left to help the victims. Feel free to come to the protest dressed as a medical professional to make this point.
