Richardson was elected As-sociate Professor of Clinical Surgery, and on November 24,1902, Walter B. Cannon was appointed Assistant Professor ofPhysiology. The diminished number of students at the opening of theyear 1903 made a curtailment of expenses necessary. Reduc-tions were made in the expenses of the various departmentsand in the salary list. On November 10, 1902, the James Stillman Professorshipof Comparative Anatomy was established. This chair wasendowed by the gift of $100,000 from James Stillman of NewYork. At the meeting of the Corporation (September 23,1902) it was ordered that the unexpended income fromthe Calvin and Lucy Ellis Fund be applied in each year to-wards the payment of the salaries in the Medical School;—at the same time $13,000 in cash, and securities valu
