The Horse 1514 By William F Beattie d 1918 Completed by his father Thomas Beattie by 1921 Originally intended to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the 1514 skirmish when Hawick callants or youths of the town routed an English raiding party at Hornshole The victory had added piquancy because large numbers of Hawick men fell at the battle of Flodden in 1513 with Douglas of Drumlanrig
