Clarkes Nutcracker has been given anumber of popular names, all of whichrefer to some characteristic or habit ofthe bird. It is, perhaps, more common-ally called Clarkes Crow; a name thatis quite appropriate, for this species is amember of the family of crows, jays andmagpies, and resembles the commoncrow in some of its habits. It is alsocalled Meat Bird and Moose Bird, whilein some localities, because of its daringand thieving propensities around campfires, it has been given the very signifi-cant name Camp Robber. This beautiful and interesting crow isa resident of the mountain ranges ofwestern North America, from Alaska onthe north to Arizona and New Mexicoon the south.
