Andelatite mineral rock crystals, polarised light micrograph. This rock's mineral composition is between those of andesite and latite. It is a porphyritic volcanic igneous rock. This specimen, prepared as a thin section, is from the Marta quarry in Nahetal, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It dates from 290 to 285 million years ago during the Permian. Magnification: x20 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
