Artist/engraver/cartographer: Santini, Paolo and Treskot, Johann & Schmidt, James. Provenance: "Atlas Universel, dressé sur les meilleures cartes modernes", 1784 à Venise par P. Santini, rue Ste Justine, chez M. Remondini. Type: Large antique 18th century atlas map, printed on thick, good quality paper with original outline hand colour/color. The east sheet of a three sheet "General Map of the Russian Empire", covering eastern Siberia and the Russian Far East, including the Aleutian Islands and the Kamchatka peninsula. The decorative vignettes in the bottom right hand corner depicts Catherine the Great herself looking at charts of her conquests achieved during the Russo-Turkish war of 1768-74.
