The same light, with coal gas, at $3 per thousand cubic feet, would cost sewndollars and-a-half! On account of the superior richness of the gas generated from rosin, or othermaterial, by our improvement, it burns, as compared with that from coal, in aproportion of two to five, and therefore the space required for generating andkeeping it is in the same proportion. The following condensed extracts from the specifications attached to the pat-ent will sufficiently indicate the construction of the apparatus and its advantages: Fig. In the above diagram A is a furnace of fire bricks with a firespace Ai provided with a grate A3 and an ash pit Thereare one or more thin arches A4 over and across the fire spacewhich support a platform of fire brick B for the gas generatingretort B1 to lie upon, and in a measure protect it from the di-rect action of the fire, and consequently it lasts much is made of iron, open at each end, and provided with doorssecured by bars, wedges and brackets, or screw bolts if preferred. The retort B» may be partially covered on the sides with firetile, which covering may be extended entirely over the top asrepresented in the drawing, if desired. There is a flue B4around and over the retort B1 opening into the chimney. tTheflue B4 has another flue leading from it up under the vessel C3so as to heat it, and the aaaterials in it from which the gas is tobe made. There is another flue E, leading from
