Nimick & Brittan. is now comparatively little used, though the chief objection toit is only in reference to its size. It is as near to beingabsolutely burglar-proof as any form of sash-fast which hasbeen devised. Half the axis, about which the lever is rotated, forms a part of the upper and of the lower sash portion of thefast. The figure shows the position when the sashes arelocked, the lever hooking down under both half-axles, and notonly drawing the two sashes together, but binding and holdingthem so they cannot be moved. To unlock the sash, the leveris thrown up to a vertical joosition. SASH-FA S TENINGS. 181. The Payson sash-fast, Figure 198, is very simple andeffective, ranking as one of the best in the market. The attachment of the lever is such as topermit it to fold back on the upper sash. Tins sash-last is notliable to get out of order, it draws the sashes together, and isas burglar-proof as would ordinarily be desirable. The onlyobjection to it is that theconnection between the leverand the locking-post does notallow for much shrinkage inthe sash. V. The action of the Flg • lves SasMast- H-B-ives& is as follows: The levers are fastened to the lower the upper lever is turned, the lower, or locking lever, is first thrown out until re- leased from the hook on theupper sash, and then drawnaround and in towar
