Decorative wooden mask 16th-17th century. From the 16th century decorative masks can appear almost a reduction in caricatural terms of classic models.

From the late Baroque age, masks began to appear also on the entrances of the noble houses, but not only. Some of these sometimes emanate sweet melancholy, serenity and majesty. Their function, as well as being ornamental, is also apotropaic, to remove or nullify a malign influence attributed to amulets, objects of various types, acts or negative formulas.
