He immediately began the practice of la\y,but at the same time pursued courses of research work at the CatholicUniversity of America, devoting his investigations to the subjects of rail-road law, corporation law, taxation and municipal corporations. In 1905he received the degree of LL. M. from the Catholic University, and in1907 the degree of J. D. He presented as his thesis a paper entitled Mu-nicipal Control of Public Service
