In the Churchyard also isa slab with the following inscription, apparently having sharedthe same fate as the preceding one :— Here resteth in Peace |Mr. Thomas Swan, Marchant-Adventurer, Maior of | this towne,who depted to the Mercy of God the 20th of January, adds:—This Gentleman lies buried within the Eails of the Appendix I. 395 Altar; whose effigy, with that of his Lady, are neatly placed onthe stone. From the same historian we learn of the followinginsciiption :— Here lieth the body of the Worshipful ThomasThackray, twice Mayor of this town, and Merchant Adventurer,who departed in the true Faith of Christ, 1630. Quod sumfueris. Also that He lies buried within the Altar Eails, overwhom is his effigy, with those of his wife and Appendix II The Arms of the Merchant Company.
