TThe annual Oxford Cambridge Boat Race may never be the same again. Chiswick Pier .The Thames .London Text Gary Blake © Gary Blake A sole protester one (Trenton) Oldfield, protesting against 'elitism' ,swimming into Oxford and Cambridge ‘blades’ caused the race to stop and be restarted 2½ miles into the 4¼-mile course, Never before in the 150 years of the race bar a capsize and a broken oar has it made headlines on news pages, migrating away from the sports sections. Oldfield was charged with a public order offence after "possibly the most dramatic Boat Race in history" Oldfield had been sighted entering the water from the 'unpopulated' south side Thames tow thought no more than 'a Streaker' .Again noted the black blob crossing the course ,coming this time out from inbetween the moored lighters and in the shadow from the crowded spectators view lining the north Thames side from where he was hiding and after the police high powered RIB had made its right amongst the men’s eights blades, his aim achieved, the umpire was forced to stop the race. The vast crowds were in disbelief as the boats had to return to re-start turning into a strong incoming Oldfields web site
