Venus of Berlin. Plaster replica of the limestone bas-relief associated with the Gravettian Upper Paleolithic culture (approximately 25,000 years old) discovered in February 1912 in Grand Abri de Laussel, Marquay, Dordogne, displayed in the Museum of Aquitaine (Musee d'Aquitaine) in Bordeaux, France. The original was sold illegally to the Berlin Ethnological Museum (Museum fur Volkerkunde) and was lost during bombing attacks in World War II in the spring of 1945. The famous bas-relief known as Venus of Laussel was discovered previously at the same place.
