South Magnetic Polar Party. Map showing the route of the South Magnetic Polar Party (5 October 1908 to 3 February 1909), part of the larger British Antarctic Expedition (Nimrod Expedition, 1907-1909), led by British explorer Ernest Shackleton. The three men who journeyed to the South Magnetic Pole (top left corner) were Douglas Mawson, Edgeworth David, and Alistair Mackay. The Nimrod Expedition base camp was at Cape Royds in McMurdo Sound (bottom centre). The routes of two other journeys (Erebus Party and Western Party) are also shown. Map published in 1909 in the Royal Geographic Society's 'Geographical Journal'.
